my laptop dell e6540 on windows 10 pro is connected to 2 external Dell u24h... via display ports.

I came back to my computer and all screens were blank, but on. I ejected my laptop from the docking station and the laptop panel came on as normal.

I tried the following which did not work:

• presing ctl+alt+del
• rebooting laptop
• turning monitors on and off
• updated both amd and intel drivers

Solution

I unplugged the display port cables fromn the back of the docking station, the laptop panel came back on. I then plugged in the external monitors 1 by 1 and they came back on.

You can also try using HDMI or VGA connections if available. This issues is common with Display Port and HDMI connections where the monitor talks back to Windows.
